Are you looking to meet new people while helping children lead safer, happier, and more independent lives? Join us as a Volunteer Guide in our Bristol based safety education Centre and make a lasting impact!

As a Volunteer Guide, you’ll lead small groups of Year 6 children through hands-on safety-related scenarios. You’ll introduce them to real-life difficult or dangerous situations that encourage critical thinking, teamwork, and smart decision-making. Through your guidance, they’ll gain invaluable skills for making safe, confident choices.

We offer self-paced training to ensure you feel comfortable and confident in your role.

Training involves:

  • Watching Sessions You’ll start by shadowing an experienced Trainer Guide, observing how they lead groups through the Centre.
  • Supported Training As you gain confidence, you’ll gradually take on parts of the session yourself, eventually leading full sessions.
  • Learning Materials To support your learning, you’ll also receive written tour notes.
  • Safeguarding All volunteers must successfully undergo an enhanced DBS and Barred List check before completing their training.

If you want to find out more about volunteering with children at Lifeskills, why not book in for a taster session? This is a fantastic opportunity to have a look around the Centre, meet our friendly team and get a first hand look at what’s involved in volunteering.

How Much Time Do I Need to Commit?
We ask for a minimum commitment of 2 sessions per month. Sessions run from 9:30 – 12:00 or 12:30 – 3:00, and you can choose to volunteer for either a half or full day, on dates that suit you.

Can I Claim Expenses?
Yes, we reimburse travel expenses.

Do I Get Lunch?
If you volunteer for a full day, we’ll cover the cost of your lunch as well.

What is a DBS and Barred List Check?
The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check ensures that anyone working with children doesn’t have previous convictions or police records that could pose a risk to their safety. It’s an essential step to ensure a safe environment for the children.
